The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) identify an ambitious progression for learning energy, beginning in elementary school. To help the nation's elementary teachers address this challenge, this project will develop and research a system of resources and support for teaching and learning about energy in all scientific disciplines in grades 3-5. The system will include a 5-day teacher PD workshop and follow-up teacher professional learning meetings, classroom-tested activities, formative assessment tools, and web-based video resources.

Focus on Energy builds on the prior exploratory research project, Rethinking How to Teach Energy:  Laying the Foundations in Elementary School. The project is a collaboration among TERC, Seattle Pacific University, Tufts University, Boston College, and FACETS Innovations.
